SONIC MAUL guitar strings are built for hard-hitting electric players who switch between standard and drop D tuning. Designed for drop-tuned heavy players who want elasticity without losing stability, these limited edition strings are engineered to handle aggressive playing and frequent tuning changes—delivering powerful tone through high-gain amps.

•    Plain Strings G, B, E: Bright, durable high-carbon steel with a high polished tin coating for smooth feel and snappy response.

•    Wound Strings A, D: Canadian steel, 8% polished round wound nickel plating, and our signature 3 micron zinc-plated high-carbon round steel core for strength and lasting brightness.

•    Wound String E (or Drop D): A slightly different core wire: a heavy 0.020” phosphate-coated core wire is wrapped in 8% polished round wound nickel plating, stays tight and punchy and enhances the lower end in standard E or drop D tuning. This heavy core string has exceptional strength-to-diameter ratio to withstand high stress caused by repeated tuning shifts without losing tone or tension, feels tight and aggressive.

If you play standard tuning (just lower) these strings will feel very much like a set of 10's when you drop your entire guitar tuning down to D. The overall tension will be pretty much the same as most brands 10's when played 1/2 to 1 full tone down-tuned, so you will not need to do any neck adjustments.
