6ix String is a small, family-run Canadian manufacturer of premium musical instrument strings based in Calgary, Alberta. We make our strings in-house, from ball-end installation to winding, inspection, and packaging, using controlled processes, precision CNC winding, and hands-on quality control. Every string is made with care because musicians rely on strings for something deeply personal: their sound.
The company started with a simple question: why does Canada have world-class musicians, world-class instrument builders, and a world-class steel industry, but no real musical instrument string manufacturing industry of its own? I could not find a Canadian-made option, so I started building one.
That makes 6ix String more than a product company. It is the beginning of a new Canadian manufacturing category. As a small startup, we currently represent the Canadian-made musical instrument string industry because, as far as we can find, there simply was not one here before. My goal is to grow that into something real, sustainable, and useful for Canadian musicians, Canadian workers, and Canadian communities.
The positive impact I want to make starts with jobs. I want to create skilled manufacturing jobs in Canada, including opportunities within my Métis community. I want musicians to have the option to buy Canadian-made strings, and I want those purchases to support Canadian manufacturing, Canadian suppliers, Canadian retailers, and the Canadian steel industry instead of automatically sending that work outside the country.
I also want 6ix String to support the people who make music possible. As we grow, I want to give strings to developing Canadian musicians who are trying to find their place in a difficult international industry. I want to support charities that recondition instruments and put them into the hands of children so they can experience the joy of music. I also want to help Indigenous artists in hard-to-reach communities access something as simple, and as important, as a fresh set of guitar, mandolin, banjo, or violin strings.
Beyond Canada, I want to bring Canadian quality to the world. When I travel internationally, I always try to stop in at local music stores to meet people, try local instruments, and occasionally bring home a musical instrument as a souvenir. When I tell people I am from Canada and that I make strings, the response is usually the same: “How can we get some in our store?” Canada’s international reputation as a trusted, reliable country full of friendly, dedicated people makes that conversation easy.
I am not building 6ix String because I expect it to make me rich. I am building it because I believe Canada should have this industry. A successful Canadian string manufacturer can support far more than one small shop in Calgary. It can create opportunities for Canadian families working in mining, refining, steel, copper, tin, wire drawing, packaging, music retail, repair shops, luthiery, distribution, and exporting. It can give Canadian materials and Canadian craftsmanship a place on instruments around the world.
At its core, 6ix String is about building something that did not exist before: a Canadian musical instrument string industry. It is about giving musicians a Canadian choice, creating Canadian jobs, supporting Canadian materials, and sharing Canadian quality with the world.
6ix String is a small Canadian manufacturer focused on precision, tone, and reliability. No gimmicks. No inflated claims. If something isn’t right, we make it right—no arguments, no fine print. Read about our 45 day free returns, and no fault, get-it-right warranty promise.
