Music has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Guitar is where it truly took hold. Over the years, I’ve played strings from every major manufacturer. Not one of them was made in Canada. That never sat right with me. We build world-class instruments here. We produce steel here. So why aren’t we building our own strings?

I decided to change that.

I set out to build guitar strings properly—using Canadian materials, manufactured entirely in Canada, for players who care about tone, feel, and reliability as much as I do. What I discovered quickly is this: making great strings isn’t simple. It’s metallurgy. It’s winding tension. It’s resonance, elasticity, surface treatment, and repeatable precision. It’s physics and feel working together.

I approached it the only way I know how—methodically. Long nights studying wave mechanics. Testing tensile strength. Measuring frequency response. Prototyping. Rejecting batches. Starting again. I made one rule early on: if they didn’t sound right, feel right, and last—I would stop. No compromises. No shortcuts.

Over time, that discipline became a manufacturing system. Carefully developed material recipes. Controlled winding processes. Inspection standards that leave nothing to chance. Today, every 6ix String is made entirely in-house in Calgary—from ball-end installation to final packaging. Every string is hand inspected. If it doesn’t meet spec, it doesn’t ship.

Small changes matter. A slight variation in wrap tension or alloy composition changes how a string blooms, bends, and sits in a mix. I measure relentlessly—but the real test is always the player. I’ve handed sets to musicians across Canada and asked for blunt feedback. I examine wear patterns under magnification. I refine. I adjust. I improve. These aren’t theoretical products. They’re built for musicians who notice the difference.
